The Fasseas Cancer Clinic provides comprehensive oncology services and access to clinical trials through the Arizona Cancer Center. "It is one of the most modern cancer treatment centers in the United States and will allow us to greatly expand the depth and breadth of our award-winning research programs for common cancers and hematologic malignancies," said David Alberts, MD, director of the Arizona Cancer Center.

Patients treated at the clinic's 37 examining rooms receive the highest-quality outpatient treatment, lab services and ongoing care. They have access to support groups, nutritional information, therapeutic massage, salon services and valet parking.

Naming Opportunities Available

For naming opportunities within the clinic and for other ways to assist UMC's cancer services, please visit our UMC Foundation Cancer Page. The clinic is named for Mr. and Mrs. Peter Fasseas, founders of the Metropolitan Bank Group, the largest private bank holding company in Illinois. The couple divides their time between Tucson and Chicago. Their generous donation to The University of Arizona Foundation helped make the construction possible.

About Peter and Paula Fasseas

Paula and Peter Fasseas"What makes this gift so special for us is the deep roots our family has in Tucson, spanning generations," the couple said in a statement. "We hope the Fasseas Cancer Clinic will serve to cure and preserve life for countless individuals for many years to come, providing hope, care, and cutting-edge science to help people and their families through their most difficult times."

Native Tucsonan Paula Sfarnas married Peter Fasseas in Tucson in 1975. The couple made their home in Chicago where Peter was working as an attorney. The couple launched their business in 1978, leveraging their home to purchase North Community Bank, a small one-office community bank with 15 employees. It was the first piece in what would grow to become the Metropolitan Bank Group, the largest private bank holding company in Illinois with more than $3 billion in assets and more than 850 employees.

The Fasseases support numerous charities and causes in the Chicagoland area. They founded PAWS Chicago (Pets Are Worth Saving) in 1998 after learning about the extent of the pet overpopulation problem. PAWS Chicago is now the largest No Kill humane organization in Chicago, receiving national recognition for its efficient solutions-based approach in animal welfare.

Peter Fasseas received his law degree from Northwestern University and Paula Fasseas holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Chicago. They currently reside in both Tucson and Chicago.
